ORIGINS OF A MODERN DAY PHARMACY Origins of a Modern Day Pharmacy

Pharmacies have not always been the way that they are today. Things have changed over the centuries as science discovered new ways of making medications, and illnesses were discovered to be treatable. Apothecary shops were the first shops that were able to dispense medications to patients. These shops wouldnt hand out pills like they do today, these medications were mainly herbal remedies that were hand ground with a mortar and pedestal. There have been many different milestones that made dispensing medications easier. These include new and safer medications, different ways to take the medications, and new dosage levels. When immunizations started being given it opened up a whole new world into the medication world. This means that many illnesses that swept the nation were preventable; this was one of the biggest milestones that pushed the study of medicine to a higher level. With the advance that medicine is taking there are still many more advances that they can hopefully achieve in the near future. This would include cures for many diseases that as of yet are still incurable.
