This list and order of names is one that is typically used by the Tijaniya brotherhood. The list used above follows the list of noted

theologian Abu Hamid al-Ghazali and his book the Ninety-Nine Beautiful Names of God. (Translated by David B. Burell and Nazih Daher, Islamic Texts Society, Cambridge, UK, 1992). According to Stanley Zwemer, there are many other lists and
orders of the 99 names (Mishkat-el Misabih, Al Mustatraf, Hughes Dictionary of Islam, Nofels Sinajet el Tarb., and Arnold Pearls of Faith). Also, it should be noted that the Warsh and Hafs traditions use differing diacritical marks for the Arabic names, so there may be some minor differences in the transliteration into English. The Hafs tradition of writing the Arabic names has been followed. Many people make talismans or charms out of these names. This is considered a blasphemous practice as the Quran tells us to put our trust alone in Allah (Fatiha Sura 1:5). May all who read these names be blessed (Tawrat Numbers 6:22-27).

All English quotes are in the English Standard Version (ESV) except where specified.
