Porter and Lawler Model of Motivation.

According to Porter, Effort does not directly leads to performance & is interrupted by ability, traits, & role perception. This Theory suggest that performance leads to satisfaction. This approaach gives a better understanding of work motivation & the relationship between performance & satisfaction.

Porter and lawler model is a multi varient model which explains the relationship that exist between job attitudes and job performance.

The model is based on four basic Assumption.


As it is a multi varient model, individual behaviour is determined by a combination of factors in the individual and in the environment. Individuals are assumed to be a rational human beings who make conscious decisions about their behaviour in the organizations. Individuals have different needs, desires and goals. On the basis of their expectations, indiviuals decide between alternate behaviours and such decided behaviour will lead to a desired outcome.
