Introduction
Definition and Explanation Practical Limitation

Basic Components of Thevenin Theorem

Thevenin Voltage Thevenin Resistence ( VTH ) ( RTH )

Rules to find thevenin resistence

Change Voltage source into short circuit

Current Sources into open circuits

Then find Equivalent Resistence with A B as reference. ( Req )

Example 1:

Find the Thevenin equevalent circuit with respect to the terminals A and B.

Example 1 Main Concept

Conversion into Thevenin Circiut

Example 1 Finding RTH

Change Voltage source into a short circuit Find Equivalent resistence 5 || 20 = 4 4 + 8 = 12 12 || 12 = 6 (Ohm) RTH = 6 (Ohm)

Example 1 Finding VTH

Place back the voltage and current sources Find Voltage across point A and B which is VTH Equation at node 1:

Equation at node 2:

V1= 60V VTH = 64.8V

Example 1 Converted circuit

6 (ohm)

64.8V

Example 2

Find the Thevenin equevalent circuit with respect to the terminals A and B.

Example 2 Finding RTH

Replace voltage and current source by short and open circuit respectively Find Equivalent resistance or Req 40 || 8 = 6.66 6.66 + 10 = 16.6 16.6 || 150 = 14.9 (ohm) RTH = 14.9 (Ohm)

Example 2 Finding VTH

Again place voltage source and current source in their places Using node voltage analysis Equation at node 1:

Equation at node 2:

V1 = 42V Vth = 30V

Example 2 Converted Circuit

14.9 (ohm)

30V
