Historian and Doctor of the Church Born in 672 or 673 and died 735

Born and raised at St. Pauls monastery in Jarrow and rarely left

Dedicated his life to the study of scriptures and the observing the

members of the monastery

He became a priest when he was 30

Also referred to as Saint Bede

Venerabilis
Given the name two generations after his death

A man was composing an epitaph on Bede and was at a loss for

words

The next morning he awoke to found that the angels had chosen

Venerabilis

The title then began to be used by well-respected priest and

deacons

Additionally, many began to refer to him as a venerable doctor

Other works such as "De temporibus liber" and "De temporum

Made many commentaries on the New Testament Bede is the earliest witness of pure Gregorian tradition in England
