YDB 116 BASIC ENGLISH FALL 2011 Instructor: Inst.

Meryem Ouzhan Office: 402 Office Hours: Wednesday 13.00 15.00 Phone: (0456) 2337425 - 1203 Email: meryem.oguzhan@yahoo.com The purpose of this course is to help students to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and to introduce him/her and others. Also, it helps students to interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help. Students will meet a total of 14 weeks over the course of the FALL semester. A possible schedule of topics covered follows below. Please be aware these topics may change based on student needs and abilities. Rules and Expectations (not comprehensive): Students will be on time to class. Students will come prepared to class. Students will respect each other and the teacher. They will not talk when others are talking, except to provide help. Students will participate. Students may be absent 4 times without excuse. Have fun! Course Requirements: Students are expected to attend class regularly, read assigned materials before the date indicated in the syllabus and actively participate in class discussions. The exams will cover readings as well as lectures. Recommended Readings:

Suggestion: If you want to make a voluntary individual presentation, please inform me about the subject beforehand. If you prepare a PPT (Power Point Presentation), let me review it before the presentation. This presentation will last for 3 minutes. Please dont read the text directly and prepare a small note sheet.
