Project Proposal

INTRODUCTION X-10 the most ancient communication protocol used for home networking since 1978 [1] developed by X-10 US Corporation. It is used to allow compatible devices to communicate with each other over 110V AC or 220V AC wiring. It communicate between transmitter and receiver through power line wiring. These signal have short RF burst which represent digital data The protocol control some simple actions in house such as: switching on/off the bulbs of the lighting system, switching the household goods, windowblinds control, temperature control for heating of cooling systems in house, and so on. As well as being controlled locally as normal, appliances can also be controlled remotely using keypads, radio and infrared remote controls, timers, and computer interfaces. Using Internet or telephone control allows control from any distance from the house.

Aims and Objectives

Aim of our project different approaches is to control the home appliances using X-10 through two

1. Home automation through IP using X-10 protocol. 2. Home automation through GSM using X-10. (i) We want to build a small server at home and this web server will do two tasks. It will receive commands from Internet. Secondly controlling home appliances using X-10 according to the command received i-e controlling movement of X-10 camera through IP. (ii) We will have a specific remote mobile that will be connected to the specific Home mobile through GSM and then this fixed home mobile will be connected to home computer via Bluetooth. This computer will be connected to X-10 controller using USB or serial communication and X-10 controller will be connected to different X-10 modules like lamp module, security sensor etc. All these modules will control the home appliances.
