ENEMA

Cleansing Enema is the instillation of enough fluid or of a specially formulated solution into the colon to help soften the feces, stimulate peristalsis and provide lubrication in preparation for evacuation - Is given when the client is constipated or when the bowel must be emptied before surgery or a special procedure. - Solution most commonly used: tap water and normal saline. Soapsuds Enema (SSE) pure Castile soap added to the solution. - Dilution of the soap to the base solution is 5 ml soap solution to 1000 mL of the solution used as the base. - Soap should be added after the bag is filled with the main solution. Rationale: This prevents the solution from foaming too much and facilitates accurate measuring of the solution
