EMBEDDED SYSTEM PROJECTS

EMS 2001. REMOTE ACCESS CONTROL AND AUTOMATION

SYSTEM FOR ELECTRONIC APPLIANCES USING
TELEPHONE LINE
The aim of the project is to access home appliances even though we are outside our
home. Here in this project, we use telephone line as control media. The project allows us to
control home appliances such as Fan, TV, Motor, and Lamps etc. All we have to do is to connect
the gadget to our telephone lines and the output lines of gadget to the respective ac loads to be
controlled to access the appliance. The user should dial his phone number followed by a
respective device number. The data is thus transferred to our house via telephone lines. Our
gadget automatically detects the incoming phone call and establishes a connection. Then it
notices the pressed device number and turns on/off the gadget and also gives a beep alert to the
caller while a device is turned which helps the caller to know the status of the device. Thus the
project is much useful when we move outstations thus allowing the worldwide access via
telephone line. The gadget automatically disconnects from the telephone line within 0 seconds
from the time of establishment of connection. To prevent the misuse, a password security may be
added to prevent the usage of gadget from intruders, which can also be stated as a future
enhancement

EMS 2002. ENABLING / DISABLING AND WIRELESS

CONTROL OF APPLIANCES & DEVICES BY
FREQUENCY MODULATION (FM) & DTMF SYSTEMS
USING RADIO FREQUENCY TECHNOLOGY
This project allows as to control equipments using RF technology. Here FM signals are
used as controlling media. Here in this project, the user is provided with a handset which consists
of a DTMF generator, a keypad and a FM transmitter to transmit the signals transferred. The
master unit consists of a FM receiver and DTMF to binary converter and a microcontroller for
enabling /disabling the device selected in handset with the use of relays. Thus this simple gadget
allows the user to access the home appliances / any appliances wirelessly from any section of the
campus since the FM waves can travel any where via the buildings /walls and doors where a IR
remote is directional and can’t penetrate through walls or doors. Thus this Project is Highly
Effective, Very Economical and much simple to use

EMS 2003. AUTOMATED AND UNMANNED CONTROL

SYSTEM OF RAILWAY CROSSING USING
WIRELESS IR SENSOR, DTMF ENCODER AND
FREQUENCY MODULATION TECHNIQUE
This project takes control over the unmanned railway crossing. The railway gate is opened
and closed automatically using a microcontroller. The microcontroller is programmed such that it

gets the indication of train‘s arrival and departure through a wireless sensor unit. The sensor unit
is a composite unit controlling IR sensor, DTMF encoder and FM transmitter. The FM transmitter
transmits the DTMF encoded sensor signal to microcontroller unit. The microcontroller unit
receives and decoded the transmitted signal. With reference to the signal received the gate is
either closed or opened along with an alarm. The future enhancement of the project is that the kit
handling can be protected from unauthorized users with the help of password. This project is one
of the advanced project the concept of project was also published in 2003 EFY magazine as a
research work Indian railway is one of the huge railways in Asia hence this project will be
worthful and reduces the labour cost.

EMS 2004. INDUSTRIAL AUTHENTICATION AND

ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM USING
EMBEDDED SMART CARD
This Project is an advanced technology. Which deals with authentication for
trespassing in a concern? In which there is a µC there we are going to register or save the
employees Password in side the ROM. Whenever the employee enters, He/She Should enters
Password in the Keyboard associated with the µC. The password strings can be compared with
the already existing password. If the password is correct the relay switch will open .if the
password is wrong the relay switch will close, the alarm will automatically blown.

EMS2005. INDUSTRIAL PROCESS CONTROL AND

AUTOMATION SYSTEM USING EMBEDDED
TECHNOLOGY
Here we have many non-electrical parameters like (Pressure, Temperature, Humidity,
etc.,). In the process industries these are all the very important non-electrical parameters. It
will have some set points if that value going beyond the limits (set points). The µC
automatically Annunciate to the Workers. We can register the current value (fault) inside the
computer through the serial communication. For example the flow pipe having capacity of
1000bars, the fault coming thro the pressure it exceeds 1000bars. Then the whole system will
collapse to overcome this problems we will introduce the microcontroller, which will control
the pressure, and it will annunciate to the workers.

EMS 2006. INTELLIGENT AND AUTOMATIC FIRE SECURITY

SYSTEM USING INTERACTIVE VOICE DECODER
AND TELEPHONE LINE
This Project - Gadget prevents our home/office from the fire accidents. The gadget
consists of a temperature sensor, which is to be placed in various positions on the room where
there is risk of fire. The sensor is lm35, which is a three-pin device. The lm35 converts the
temperature data as a voltage data which is a analog data and then the data is given to a
comparator segment. The comparator compares with the reference temperature and if the input

temperature exceeds the reference value, the comparator triggers the microcontroller. The
microcontroller in turn drives a interactive voice decoder and also establishes a phone connection
to the police and fire service also the device warns about the dangerous temperature level that
may cause fire by a loud alarm.

EMS 2007. AUTOMATIC WATER LEVEL CONTROLLER

This project mainly deals with the level of water in tank automatically. The water
sensing elements (copper terminals) are placed at various levels of tank. The wires from the
sensors are fed to the microcontroller which is programmed such that it gets the signal from
sensors and displays the level of water in a 7 segment it also maintains the water level there by
driving the pump automatically the corrosion of sensor is not noticed here since negligible
current flows through the sensor which ensures long life

EMS 2008. IMPLEMENTATION OF GLOBAL AND REMOTE

POSITIONING SYSTEM FOR DEFENCE AND
OTHER PURPOSES USING MOBILE NETWORKS
The project is used to spy a particular vehicle and to display the area where the vehicle
is to a remote person. The project is worth able for spying for military purpose. In this model
GPS; we use a IR transmitter which is fixed to the vehicle to be spied. The receiver is an IR
sensor, which is placed at various positions resembling the mobile tower when the vehicle is
inside the coverage range of tower. The tower name is displayed on the LCD display, which is
kept at control station. The contact between the control unit and tower is done using the FM
signals. Thus this project resembles a mobile phone network where RF is eliminated here due to
some laws to use FM transmitter by Indian government and also due to model purpose. Usage of
RF here may interfere with other sections since the range of Rf transmitter is large. The
compactness of project will be violated hence for a demo purpose actual Rf transmission is
replaced with IR transmission

EMS 2009. DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF BOMB

DETECTING ROBOT

This project is a model of a bomb detector. For a demo purpose, we assume that a bomb
emits IR rays (actually a bomb contains metal fillings and chemical, which is violently
combustible. The actual sensor is sensible to metals and chemicals used in bomb). The ROBOT
consists of IR receiver and microcontroller unit, which drive the wheels of the ROBOT via pairs
of DC motors. The receiver pairs placed at the front of the ROBOT resemble that of a car
headlight. The ROBOT revolves round for a valid IR signal from the bomb. If it picks the IR rays
it moves towards it and warns a loud siren about the presence of bomb. It also gives a voice alert
about the presence of the bomb. If this project is implemented practically with some extra
features such as calling to police, fire service etc., it can be done.
EMS 2010. DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF OBSTACLE
SENSING AND OBJECT GUIDING ROBOT

This funny ROBOT automatically detects the obstacle in front of it and changes its
direction of moving automatically. The principle behind is the IR rays which is reflected back
when there is an obstacle. The two pair of IR trans-receiver is placed in front of the ROBOT,
which resembles a car headlight. Whenever the light is reflected back the ROBOT notices that
there is an Obstacle and changes its direction by the instruction of microcontroller. A buzzer may
be added whenever the ROBO senses the obstacle. This project reflects our programming and
hard ware interfacing skill.

EMS 2011. DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF LINE

FOLLOWER ROBOT USING THE PRINCIPLE
OF REFLECTION OF LIGHT RAYS
This ROBOT follows a black line drawn in a reflecting surface automatically. The
principle behind it is the property of light rays where light is absorbed by black bodies and
reflected back by other bright colors. The ROBOT consists of two pairs of IR trans-receivers
placed at bottom. The microcontroller in the ROBOT scans for the reflected light. If the ROBOT
is in black line position no light rays is reflected. Else, if it moves away from the black line, one
of the sensor reports the microcontroller availability of reflected light. The microcontroller
correspondingly controls one of the motors, which is coupled to the wheel of ROBOT and
changes the direction of ROBOT towards the line.

EMS 2012. HOME AUTOMATION AND CONTROL SYSTEMS

In our home some times we forgot to switch off the electrical appliances, so we have
many loses in electricity and other resources. To overcome this we install home automation in
our home. The µC controls the home appliances activities. For example anybody leaving from
any one of the rooms the Electrical objects (Fans, Lights, Etc.,) automatically switched off. We
will keep any one of the sensors inside the Lock of the door when the door is locked the sensor
will send the signal to the microcontroller, then the microcontroller activate the interrupt
routine and displayed the message to the user and it will cutoff the Power supply of the
appliances.

EMS 2013. MOTION DETECTION, ROBOTICS GUIDANCE

AND PROXIMITY SENSING USING ULTRASONIC
TECHNOLOGY
Object ranging is essential in many types of systems. One of the most popular ranging
techniques is ultrasonic ranging. Ultrasonic ranging is used in a wide variety of applications
including
• Auto focus cameras
• Motion detection
• Robotics guidance
• Proximity sensing

• Object ranging

This project describes a method of interfacing micro controllers. This implementation uses a
minimum of micro controller resources. The micro controller performs the intelligence and
arithmetic functions for ultrasonic ranging, while the T-40 and R-40 Module performs the
ultrasonic signal transmissions and echo detection
EMS 2014. INTELLIGENT HOME SECRUITY SYSTEM USING
INTERACTIVE VOICE RESPONSIVE SYSTEM
This project consists of few pairs of IR trans-receivers placed at various openings such as
door, windows, ventilators etc., The microcontroller scans for the interruption of sensors. While a
interruption is noticed the microcontroller alerts us with a loud alarm and calls the police
automatically and informs the place of theft by driving a IVR( Interactive Voice Response Unit).
A display also indicates the place of disturbance noticed.

EMS 2015. IMPLEMENTATION OF AIR TRAFFIC

CONGESTION CONTROL SYSTEMS
We nowadays often see and experience lot of accidents and traffic congestion in our day-
to-day life. If we want an alternative solution for this, Air traffic control using Embedded can be
implemented to overcome this catastrophic failure occurrence due to accident. The antenna used
in the field of Radar, to find the direction, angle, distance, and the velocity parameters.

EMS 2016. DEVICE DRIVER USING I C NETWORK
PROTOCOL

Communication network systems are rapidly growing in size and complexity. These
systems have many high-speed integrated circuits with critical operating parameters and must
provide extremely reliable service with zero down time. We implement iic by connecting 128
devices through 7-bit interface for example device driver includes RTC and EEPROM by connect
data pin and clock pins respectively.

EMS 2017. INTELLIGENT, AUTOMATIC AND MODERN

TRAFFIC LIGHT CONTROLLER BASED ON
TRAFFIC DENSITY
Now a day mainly we are facing more problems with road traffic. This project helps us
to over come all those problems easily by modern trend. This project entirely differs from
existing manual type. This project has three important modes such as timer, density and night.
LED’s are used for signal status indication and seven segments for timer display. The traffic
density will be obtained by using IR trans-receiver modules with respect to number of road
intersections. For selecting the modes we use respective keys on the keypad. The 89C51
microcontroller is programmed so that it scans for the operating modes. In timer mode it will be
working with respect to predetermined time delays. In density mode it will be working with

delay, which is determined with respect to Ir. trans receiver input. In night mode it will be
working independently with respect to some time delay until we set and change.
EMS 2018. FUEL INJECTION CONTROL VALVE
The Valve movement can be controlled by the 89C51 µC.with very effective ways. In
Automobile Industries the fuel injection valve can control the fuel through the channel.
Suppose flow of fuel or pressure in the channel is high then the valve should control the flow.
If not the whole system will blast. To avoid this situation we can use the microcontroller to
reduce this kind of technical error. This valve can be controlled using amplifier circuit.

EMS 2019. IMPLEMENTATION OF WIRELESS AUTOMATION

AND CONTROL THROUGH RADIO FREQUENCY
TECHNOLOGY
The term wireless communication refers to transfer of information via electromagnetic or
acoustic waves over atmospheric space rather than along a cable. The apparent wrinkle between
such a scheme and conventional wired systems is the presence of the wireless channel as the
medium over which the communication must take place. Thus when considering a general digital
wireless communication system design of each building block will be dependent on the channel
between transmitter and receiver. This is invoked by RF Microcontroller based transmitter and
receiver. By this we can control operation that is a relay connected to the receiver end.
EMS 2020. INTELIGENT & DYNAMIC POWER SAVER AND
CONTROL SYSTEM FOR INDUSTRIAL
ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENTS
Practically in any industries, say, auditoriums, operators may forget to switch off all
electrical equipment’s such as fan, light, ac etc., This project mainly helps us to solve such
problems. We use two pairs of IR trans-receivers for counting persons inside currently. The
microcontroller gets number of disturbances from the trans-receivers and correspondingly
displays the number of persons present inside the auditorium in LCD. It also warns when count of
persons inside crosses the maximum limit of the room and it also makes long beep for negative
counts or wrong entries. When the auditorium vacant all electrical equipment's will be switched
off automatically.
EMS 2021. DESIGNING ROBOT SENSORY SYSTEMS
Robotics means the study and application of robot tech. The sensory systems (eyes, nose
touch) that we human posses make us unique, and it will require a lot of programming to equip
robots with the same capabilities for that eye vision. We are using ultrasonic sensors for detecting
the interrupt signal and it will capture receiver’s signal, which immediately turn the position of
robot.

EMS 2022. PULSE WIDTH MODULATION (PWM) BASED

SPEED CONTROL OF MOTORS

Now a days saving power is much essential in an industrial applications. PWM is a
modern trend for controlling the speed of Industrial motors which reduces the power loss as heat.
A dual timer is accomplished with microcontroller so as to generate PWM. The pulse width is
controlled by keypad. The output of microcontroller is optically coupled to the motor driving
unit( thyristors). Thus this unit allows to run a motor with five speed levels, which includes halt
condition. The optical coupling is done here to prevent AC return from motor. Thus this project
is much better than transistorized power control.

EMS 2023. WIRELESS HOME AUTOMATION

The RF Microcontroller based transmitter and receiver through wireless can control many
home appliances efficiently. In our home sometimes we forget to switch off the electronic
equipments, which in turn huge electrical losses can occur. To overcome this drawback we adopt
wireless home automation.

synchronous serial communications includes the I2C (Philips Semiconductors), SPI (Motorola)
and Micro wire (National Semiconductor) protocols. The Dallas Semiconductor 1-Wire bus is
described. Many code examples are included as modules, which will provide the basis for the
reader’s, own PIC microcontroller applications.

EMS 2027. IMPLEMENTATION OF RFID SYSTEM USED FOR

TRACKING AND AUTHENTICATION PURPOSES
APPLYING BACK SCATTERING TECHNOLOGY
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems use radio frequency to identify, locate and
track people, assets, and animals. Passive RFID systems are composed of three components – a
reader (interrogator), passive tag and host computer. The tag is composed of an antenna coil and a
silicon chip that includes basic modulation circuitry and non-volatile memory. The tag is
energized by a time-varying electromagnetic radio frequency (RF) wave that is transmitted by the
reader. This RF signal is called a carrier signal. When the RF field passes through an antenna
coil, there is an AC voltage generated across the coil. This voltage is rectified to result in a DC
voltage for the device operation. The device becomes functional when the DC voltage reaches a
certain level. The information stored in the device is transmitted back to the reader. This is called
backscattering. By detecting the backscattering signal, the information stored in the device can be
fully identified.

Because of its simplicity, the passive RFID system has been used for many years in
various RF remote sensing applications. In recent years, there have been dramatic increases in
application demands. In most cases, each application uses a unique packaging form factor,
communication protocol, frequency, etc.

applied, if there's a fault the buzzer will sound and you should switch off again and check for
open doors, windows, etc. If everything is in order the buzzer will NOT sound and the exit delay
will begin. You have about 30 seconds to leave the building. When you return the buzzer will
sound. You then have about 30 seconds to switch off; otherwise the siren will sound. It will go on
sounding indefinitely. However, if the building is re-secured the siren will switch off after about
10 minutes and the alarm will reset.

This is a complete alarm system with 5 independent zones suitable for a small office or home
environment. It uses just 3 CMOS IC's and features a timed entry / exit zone, 4 immediate zones
and a panic button. There are indicators for each zone a "system armed" indicator. The schematic
is as follows. Each zone uses a normally closed contact. These can be micro switches or standard
alarm contacts (usually reed switches). Suitable switches can be bought from alarm shops and
concealed in doorframes, or window ledges.

Once set any contact that opens will trigger the alarm, including Zone 1. To prevent triggering the
alarm on entry to the building, the concealed re-entry switch must be operated. This will
discharge C6 and start the entry timer. The re-entry switch could be a concealed reed switch,
located anywhere in a doorframe, but invisible to the eye. The panic switch, when pressed, will
trigger the alarm when set. Relay contacts RLA1 provide the latch, RLA2 operate the siren or
buzzer.

EMS 2050. HUMAN DETECTION AND MONITORING SYSTEM

In this demo model we have made a HDS, which uses RF 27 MHZ communication instead of
actual microwave communication. This project actually tracks a HUMAN and gives the area info
of that PERSON to the control station thus this project, can also be stated as HUMAN monitor. In
this model we provide necessary tower, which resembles similar to a cell phone networking while
the vehicle lies inside the coverage of particular tower, the tower name is displayed in an LCD
display, which is actually placed in the control station that is few meters away. The
TRANSMIITER that is placed with the person emits modulated RF rays, the RF receivers placed
in the tower picks the RF rays emitted while the vehicle is inside the coverage range of that
particular tower and the each tower is assigned with unique DTMF CODES while IR rays are
picked by the tower it in turn generates a DTMF signal which is transmitted to the control station
by a low power FM transmitter the FM receiver placed at the control station picks the FM signal
and demodulates and retrieves back the DTMF signal. The DTMF decoder placed after the
receiver section converts the DTMF tones into binary codes, the binary data is fed to the micro
controller AT89c51 in turn drives a LCD display, which displays the area information.
