Oberwetter Letter To Rawlings Concerning Flow Control
Oberwetter Letter To Rawlings Concerning Flow Control
The Honorable Mike Rawlings Mayor, City of Dallas 1500 Marilla Street Dallas, Texas 75201 Dear Mayor Rawlings: On behalf of the Dallas Regional Chamber, I would like to thank you, your colleagues and city staff for the leadership you have shown by preparing a city budget that will serve Dallas well by keeping the tax rate at the current level. Furthermore, we appreciate the City's efforts in seeking new ways to generate revenue within the confines of the current tax landscape. However, one of these new ideas, flow control of commercial waste, has garnered much attention and is of concern to a number of our members. Many good questions have been raised regarding the reported benefits of flow control and several counter proposals have been offered. One of our hallmarks at the Chamber is the belief in competition, including the competition of ideas. Since there appears to be much conflicting data between the City and the private sector offerings with respect to flow control. We believe further study of private sector plans with a view toward taxpayer impact is in order. This is especially true if flow control will lead to higher disposal costs for business. Additionally, it appears the budget for next year will balance without adopting a flow control ordinance. With this in mind, we respectfully ask the City delay the consideration of the flow control ordinance until careful study of the presented available options is undertaken and completed.
Yours respectfully,
CC:
