Title: Insect Report

Objective Standards Students will research an assigned insect, and complete a written report on. Content Area: Reading, Writing and Communicating Grade Level Expectations: Second Grade Standard: 4 Research and Reasoning: Gather information from a variety of sources; analyze and evaluate the quality and relevance of the source; and use it to answer complex questions. Concepts and Skills Students Master: 1 - Reference materials help us locate information and answer questions a - identify a variety of resources and the info. they might contain (dictionary, trade book, library data bases, Internet web page) b - Identify a specific question and gather info. for purposeful investigation and inquiry c - Use text features to locate, interpret, and use information (table of contents, illustrations, diagrams, headings, bold type) Recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question (CCSS: W.2.8) Content Area: Reading, Writing, Communicating and Technology Grade Level Expectations: Second Grade Standard: 3- Writing and Composition: Implement the writing process successfully to plan, revise, and edit written work. Concepts and Skills Students Master: * 1 - Explore the writing process to help plan and draft a variety of genres a - Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or sections (CCSS: W.2.2) c- Organize informational texts using main ideas and specific supporting details f- state a focus when responding to a given question, and use details from text to support a given focus. Standard 2: Communication and Collaboration- Technology- Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively to support individual learning and contribute to others. Students b- Communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats. Standard 4: Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision makingStudents use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. Title: Insect Report


Students will: Research/take notes on the insect of topic. Research/take notes on what an insects diet is. Research/take notes on the life cycle of their insect. Research/take notes on the region/habitat of their insect. Take their research and compile to write insect report. Students will write introductory paragraph, label each page of report with appropriate heading (i.e., diet, habitat, etc.) Draw/illustrate pictures for each page Share with class completed insect report Differentiated Instructional Support Assessment Evidence Report modified/shortened for students with special needs Students will report on insects Knowledge of insect researched
