A student may add up to 5 points to their final grade point average by

completing the following writing assignment.

Write a personal essay utilizing one of the chapters from your text as a
source of inspiration. The essay should show how you have or plan to
utilize the knowledge contained within the chapter to improve your
personal life, life at work or both. You may use outside resources
however that is not required. This is not a research paper. I am
interested in how you see the practicality and usefulness of the skills and
knowledge presented.

The essay must be typed or printed and double-spaced. It should be 2

and a half to five pages in length (500-1000 words). Utilize a standard
font such as Times New Roman (11 or 12 point). Your name should be
in the upper right hand corner. A short title should be centered at the
top of the paper.

As in all “Ports of Life” grammar is important. Spelling, grammar, and

usage will be considered in determining the grade.

You will receive a grade of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. This will be added to your

final grade.

The paper is due by the end of class Thursday May 1, 2008.
