Predisposing factors: Diabetes Multiple pregnancy Abnormal position or presentation of the fetus Umbilical cord prolapse

Etiology: Unknown

Precipitating factors: Use of alcohol or drugs Infection

Problems with umbilical cord

Blood flow to placenta is cut off

Lack of air flow going to the fetus

Oxygen deprivation

Fetal Disttress

Hyperactivity

Fetal acidosis

Persistent nonreassuring fetal heart rate

Meconium staining

Non-correctable fetal distress
