INTRODUCTION TO CSR

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is also known as corporate citizenship, responsible business, sustainable business and corporate social performance which is in the form of corporate self regulation integrated into a business model.

DEFINITION OF CSR

CSR acts as a voluntary action that business can take over and above compliance with minimum legal requirement to address both its own competitive interest and of the wider society. CSR means company conducts their business in a way which is ethical, means taking account of their impact:

Socially: Close to Nokias factory at Gwalior, the company is working on a project targeting women's empowerment and female infanticide. The ' Gurikha Project' The projects key focus is on various aspects of women's inequality, female infanticide and rights of the girl child.

Environmentally:The packaging of all the Nokia phones are made from recycled paper. Clear instructions are also provided for correct disposal of used batteries with every handset. Ecologically in terms of human rights: Sony signed an agreement with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) global environmental NGO, to join its "Climate Savers Programme". Under the program, Sony has agreed to partner with the WWF to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at Sony's sites around the world, reduce CO2 emissions from product use.

It improves financial performance. Enhances brand image and reputation. Increases customer loyalty and brand differentiation. Open view of companys activities Helps in risk management Increases competitive advantage, profit.
