A SEMINAR REPORT ON

CAMLESS ENGINE

ABSTRACT
An experimental engine with an electrohydraulic camless valvetrain, capable of total valve motion, was first conceived by the Ford Research Laboratory. Engine with an electrohydraulic camless system neither uses cams, nor springs, which reduces engine height and weight. Hydraulic force both opens and closes the valves during the valve acceleration potential energy of compressed fluid is converted into kinetic energy of valve motion during deceleration the energy of valve motion is returned to the fluid recuperation of kinetic energy is the key to the low energy consumption. Rather than open and close the valves with conventional system camless engine employs an electro-hydraulic actuator mounted above the valves. The use of electrohydraulic actuators eliminates an number of expensive high precision and heavy components for the motor including the cam shaft, rocker arms and springs, cam bearings and support structures including caps, timing gear, push rods or in the case of an overhead cam engine, the belt or chain and assorted gears, and lubrication channels and ports. Because of this features valve motion has become independent. This permits an optimization of valve event for each operating condition without any compromise
