PHOTOSYNTHESIS

It is process of preparation of food by green plants (with chlorophyll

pigment) in the presence of sunlight using CO2 & water as raw material

REACTION
The overall reaction of the photosynthesis is summarised in the following
equation :-
6CO2+12 H2O ChSluonrloipghhytll C6H12O6+6H2O+6O2

RAW MATERIAL
The synthesis of carbohydrates (sugar) requires two substances. These are:-
1. Carbon dioxide ( CO2)
2. Water (H2O)
MECHANISM OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS
The entire process of photosynthesis is completed in two phases:

1.Light phase depends upon light and also called photochemical reaction.
2. Dark phase does not require light and is called dark reaction or purely
chemical reaction.

FACTORS AFFECTING PHOTOSYNTHESIS

Two types of factors influence the process of photosynthesis:
(A) Internal Factors
(B) External Factors
Steps of Light Reaction
Light reaction involves two steps:
1. Phase I (Photolysis of water)
2. Phase II (Photophosphorylation)
12 NADPH

12 RUBP
Dark Reaction

12 NADP

Factors Affecting

Photosynthesis

Internal Factors External Factors

1. Chlorophyll contents 1. Light

2. Accumulation of 2. Carbon dioxide

products 3. Water
