Biomass Fuels Technology

Dan Henry
Ethanol Production

• In 2005, Ethanol producers in the

US produced 16,230 Liters
• Ethanol production has more than
doubled from 2000-2005
• Ethanol production from corn
makes their industry the third
largest consumer of corn in the
world
Biodeisel Production

• In 2005 the US
biodiesel production
was 290 million
liters
• Between 2000-2005,
biodiesel production
quadrupled
PFI / ACORE

• PFI needs to join the American Council on

Renewable Energy (ACORE)
The Carbon Dioxide Issue

• In 2005, 6 billion tons of carbon

dioxide were produced in the
world from oil products
• That equates to 1 ton per man,
woman & child per year
– In North America, 3.5 to 4 billion tons
• By 2010, with growth
consumption of oil in China &
India that number rises to 10
billion tons annually
Pellet Appliances

• Pellet stove production & sales for 2006

may hit 180,000 units
• We must expand & grow the pellet
production if we are going to sustain the
growth of appliance sales at this level
ACORE

• ACORE, a 501C, non profit organization is

based in Washington DC, has the mission to
bring renewable energy technologies into
the mainstream of American society
through
– Convening
– Information
– Publishing
– Communications
ACORE

• ACORE tracks and reports BIOmass power

generation 39 (GW) biomass heating Hot
water & space heating 220 (GW)
• ACORE is a unified voice much larger than
HPBA & PFI. We need to add our voice to
theirs to make them larger.
Joining Forces

• We need to get our industries’ production of pellet

fuel & heating appliances on their radar—so they
can add us to their efforts
• I would encourage all of you to get more involved
at the political level.
• Contact your members of Congress &
Representatives with encouragement for
renewable biomass fuel.
• We need to assist the Bass bill funded
– Thirty members of Congress in support of this bill could get it
funded.
