The document discusses the issues and struggles that the Israelites faced after escaping slavery in Egypt and crossing the Red Sea. While this marked their freedom, it was only the beginning of their journey, and they continued to face challenges through lack of faith, disobedience, forgetfulness and more. The document suggests that God provided for their needs through miracles like water and manna, but they still needed something deeper. God's plan for them involved providing both the Word through the law and sacraments like those prefigured in Exodus to solidify their covenant with God and show his presence.
