Lesson Title: Naming parts of the body

Application Notes: The body parts labelling application is a simple to use science vocabulary exercise. Label words are simply dragged and dropped into the correct place in the diagram. When all words have been placed the user clicks on the check button to get feedback on their selection. If the picture has been labelled correctly positive feedback is given and another image can be chosen. If the picture is incorrectly labelled then the user returns to the diagram to try a different arrangement. Sound support is given on label words to develop pupils sight vocabulary. Class: Subject: Science

Pupils use a body parts wordbank to label photographs. Supports work in Year 1. Why ICT is appropriate: Allows open exploration and supports pupils to work more independently. Resources Required: Bodypart files and 4, Multimedia PC Pre-requisite knowledge/skills/understanding: Basic mouse control skills, word recognition skills and understanding of vocabulary used. Learning Objectives taken from the QCA Science SOW Sc 1a Ourselves that humans have bodies with similar parts

Teaching Activities Introduction: Show the children how the bodyparts program works. Start to label a diagram and actively engage pupils by asking them to take turns to use the whiteboard / mouse to label the picture. Independent Work: Ask children to name and locate parts of the body using drawings and labels. Select a group or pair to use the computer to complete this work. Plenary: Work through a labelling example getting the children to explain talk through their choices.

Teaching notes / Learning Outcomes The teacher uses a projector screen to demonstrate the programme or children gather round the computer screen.

Supporting adult maybe useful to aid children or to make observations.

The teacher checks the childrens understanding by asking questions to get children to indicate location of named parts of the body on themselves and other children and name external parts of the body eg arm, leg, knee, eye, ear, nose, tongue

Assessment Strategy: Mainly through observation and questioning take a screen shot using the print screen key and pasting into a word processor application if you need to keep a record of work covered.
