Child domestic workers [CDWs] are mostly female aged 17 years

old and below. They landed in domestic work due to parental neglect,
abuse and abandonment. Although some are in school, a significant
number are out-of-school. CDWs work long hours at an average of 12
hours a day and earn an average income of 1,000 a month.

Most of them are in an abusive situations by their employers. These


children live outside their homes without the supervision of the parents
making them prone to exploitation.

This sad condition prompted Lingap Pangkabataan, Inc., come up


with a project that would address the needs of Child Domestic Workers.
Initially, the target areas will be in three barangays in Quezon City
namely: Barangay E. Rodriquez, Escopa 1, 2, 3 & 4, and Barangay
Socorro. The project aims to:

develop children’s resilience to persist in school;


encourage local institutions such as LGU, school, churches to
provide support to children
develop capacity of volunteers to care for children domestic
workers.
advocate for the enforcement of the City ordinance to register
domestic workers in target areas.

STRATEGIC APPROACHES:

Case Finding and Master listing


A systematic case finding and masterlisting per barangay will be
conducted to identify Child Domestic Workers (Batang Kasambahay).

2. Formal and Non Formal School to Child Domestic Workers

Educational Support to In-school CDWs;


Vocational and Non-Formal Education for Out-of-School Child
Domestic Workers;

3. Formation of Interest groups/Associations

Group Interactions will focus on honing of interpersonal skills


and interest, sharing of life experiences, and value -based teachings.
The groups will initially be facilitated by the volunteers but later,
groups will be co-facilitated by children.

4. Policy Advocacy

LPI is active in calling the attention of the LGUs in the


formulation of local ordinances pertaining to Child protection. Lingap is
also part of the national movement for the passage of the Magna
Carta for Domestic Workers into a law.

stock and non-profit, church related organization that caters to holistic
development of children and youth, their families and communities.
