Introduction

Change is a part of the life cycle of any living cell. Even nonliving objects, such
as consumer products, undergo transformation in shape, color, or form to meet the ever
changing needs and quality lifestyles of people. In fact, individuals are constantly
confronted with change throughout their life. Change is not linear but it occurs to all the
society, in general. Affecting everybody and organization. Organizations, as social
system, also grow, mature, and evolve; and in the process, manifest various changes in
structure, policy, strategies, process, technology, staff, and management.

Change is the variation or observed difference from a previous state. It is a


progression from one stage to another. Change can be merely incremental or it can
constitute a major innovation. When certain change will occur, it becomes difficult to
predict particularly the external ones. A number of forecasting techniques and parameter,
which were used with a certain degree of success in the past, may no longer be
applicable, given the present rate in which change takes place.

The advent of technology has placed us at a critical juncture where it is no longer


enough to teach students and train workers to perform well on standardization tests and
tasks. What is needed in the office, field and classroom is a new system of management
and learning that develops skills in abstract and system thinking, experimental inquiry,
and collaborative problem solving. With these skills, a highly skilled workforce of
decision makers and problem solvers able to think and adapt to change can be created.
