KCTS 9 ANNOUNCES PBS KIDS GO! WRITERS CONTEST WINNERS

KCTS 9 congratulates the winners of this year's regional PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest! The annual PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest is a competition designed to promote the advancement of childrens reading skills through hands-on, active learning. KCTS 9 encourages children in grades K-3 to celebrate the power of creating stories and illustrations by submitting their own stories. This year, more than 400 students across Washington state and British Columbia wrote and illustrated stories for the contest. A panel of local educators selected our winners, who will receive a backpack stuffed with books, DVDs, art supplies and educational games. Contest winners will also read their story for broadcast on KCTS 9 and KCTS9.org. Winners of the 2011 KCTS 9 PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest are: Kindergarten First Place: Mina Gabriel, Kirkland, WA, The Dragon at The Park Honorable Mention: Neel Garde, Redmond, WA, Robot Visits Earth First Grade First Place: Nupur Gorkar, Bellevue, WA, Amys Paragliding Adventure Honorable Mention: Kira de Morsella, Bellevue, WA, The Little Science Fairy Second Grade First Place: Jack Mercs, Vancouver, B.C., General Roboto-Kiss and the Super Tasty Chocolate Bar Honorable Mention: Brianna Nelson, Renton, WA, Fairy World Third Grade First Place: Jack Gardner, Lake Stevens, WA, Frank and George Save the Day Honorable Mention: Michelle Kim, Bellevue, WA, I Learned My Lesson Funding for the KCTS 9 PBS KIDS GO!
