There are several reasons why this has become an increasingly serious problem. Scientists are still uncertain about the exact cause of global warming. Building more roads has led to more congestion not less. better standard of teaching at primary school level has resulted in a major drop in illiteracy. The high salaries available in more advanced economies has caused many people to choose to work abroad for a few years. Pollution will always be a problem because we use too much fossil fuel. Because of the amount of fossil fuel we use, pollution will always be a problem. The rate of unemployment has fallen in some countries thanks to an increase in demand in the labour market. The rate of unemployment has risen in some sectors of the economy due to the negative effects of globalisation. It is now almost certain that global warming has been directly caused by man's use of fossil fuels. This has led to an international debate about what A

we should do to reduce the negative effects of our actions and how we can make the planet safe for our children's children to live in. One consequence of this debate has been to improve the level of "green" education in schools and this should result in greater awareness of this difficult issue in the long term. However, in the short term there still remains much to be done. The reason for this is that we need to address causes of the immediate problem.
