Behavioral Theory

Behavioral theories of leadership do not seek inborn traits or capabilities. Rather, they look at what leaders actually do.

Lewins leadership styles:


Democratic Autocratic Laissez-Faire

Democratic
The leader will involves the people in decisionmaking, although the process of the final decision still depends on the leader. Democratic decision-making is usually appreciated by the people. However, it can be very problematic when there is a wide range of ideas given by the group members.

Autocratic
Takes decision without consulting with others. Consultation are not made in the decisions made.

Laissez-Faire
It minimize the leaders involvement in decision making. It allow people to make their own decisions. It works best when people are capable & motivated in making their own decisions. For example: sharing resources across a range of different people and groups.
