Course Tou2080 Travel Planning This module is done with those that you are rooming with.

Therefore you must set up times in which you can meet and research and plan together. This module is due by Jan 31st, 2012. 1.1 Domestic: Domestic tourism is the travel of people from their country to other places in their country. International travel: Tourism is travel for recreational, leisure or business purposes. The World Tourism Organization defines tourists as people who "travel to and stay in places outside their usual environment for more than twenty-four (24) hours and not more than one consecutive year for leisure and business. Inbound: Adjective: Traveling toward a particular place, esp. when returning to the original point of departure: "inbound traffic"; "we have three enemy planes inbound on bearing two ninety". Outbound: Adjective: Traveling away from a particular place, esp. on the first leg of a round trip: "an outbound flight"; "flying outbound". Free independent traveller (FIT): In the travel industry, the term Free Independent Traveler (or Tourist), abbreviated FIT, is used to refer to a single traveler or a small group (up to 9), in contrast to large, organized groups. Group travel: When a group of people travels together, perhaps incentives are involved due to the size of the group. 1.2* Describe in a page, the advantages and disadvantages of commercial travel planning and tour packages 1.3* List various agencies that provide travel-planning services in your community. 1.4*

Describe the different types of travel plans and tours available to the traveler including: - Trip plans and itineraries - Day trips - Site tours - Inclusive tour charters - Special interest travel 2.1* Discuss travel limitations related to: - Documentation - Criminal record - Traveling with children 2.2* List various agencies that provide travel information related to health and safety 2.3* Research travel advisories and insurance 2.4* Identify immunizations required for specific travel 3.1* List the factors that a travel planner will consider when planning a tour including: - Age, needs, desired activities and agility of client - Budget - Season - Time and distance - Accommodations - Attractions - Geography - Risk assessment - Mode of transportation - Language - Currency - Food preference 3.2* Describe the factors that influence customer satisfaction 3.3* Describe strategies travel planners use to ensure customer satisfaction 4.1*

Research existing travel packages and select appropriate ones to meet the needs (Example: seasonal, budgetary and special needs) of various clients including: - Families - Seniors - School groups 4.2* Identify criteria to evaluate travel plans and tours 4.3* Describe the advantages and disadvantages to the traveler of: - Flight insurance - Accident and health insurance - Baggage and personal possession insurance - trip cancellation insurance Flight insurance / travel insurance: In general terms, travel insurance protects a travelers holiday costs against adverse events such as cancellation and interruption and also reimburses medical expenses, the loss or damage of property and transit delays. Travelers are compensated if they have to cancel or interrupt their travel, they will also be covered should they need emergency medical treatment, medical evacuation and other situations. Accident and health insurance: This is the coverage for accidental injury, accidental death, disease, and related health expenses. Benefits will pay for preventative services, medical expenses, and catastrophic care, with limits. See health insurance, personal health insurance, sickness and accident insurance. Baggage and personal possession insurance: The basic definition of "baggage and personal effects," is "luggage, personal possessions and travel documents. ... Trip cancellation insurance: Trip cancellation insurance will protect you if you need to cancel your trip before your departure date, provided you cancel for a covered reason. Covered reasons typically include illness, injury or death of a family member or traveling companion, or your own illness, injury or death. Most policies specify that you (or the ill or injured party) must see a physician and obtain a letter from that physician stating that you are too ill or disabled to travel. You must contact your insurance provider before your scheduled departure.

Be sure to check through the criteria and add in what is required. These ideas may help summarize it all together for you. Dream Destination Using the Internet, personal experience, travel agencies, travel videos, research the following information on a selected country. Prepare a report in using one of the following medias. a) Written b) Verbal presentation c) Video d) Pictures

e) Brochure etc. Choose a few ways to present the information you gather. a) Introduction brief description of choice of country b) Describe geographical features of each tourism region including: Climate Landforms Culture (language / religion / race) Political system Economical development

c) Describe the major tourism characteristics of the region which are important to the travelers d) Prepare a map and describe major tourism attractions in the region. e) Match regional destinations for the following visitor expectation: Family vacation Adventure tour Senior retirement trip Culture and arts tour

f) Using the information above, prepare a travel package to meet client needs. Describe a potential client (Example: a young college student adventure) Discuss needs and desires of the client Prepare a promotional tool for the country

Travel Arrangements You are a travel agent. What travel arrangements and fares can you offer the following customers. 1) A business man must fly out of New York City tomorrow morning and arrive as early as possible in Washington DC.
