BANKS GOT BAILED OUT, AIDS GOT SOLD OUT!

Facts about AIDS for the Occupy Wall Street Community DID YOU KNOW? Every year 50,000 Americans are newly infected with HIV. These infections are driven by poverty, homelessness, lack of access to education, and cycles of incarceration. THE WAR ON AIDS is stalled while our government funds two bloody wars, unfairly taxes the poor, bails out big banks and pumps money into a broken criminal justice system. THINK ABOUT THIS: Since 2001, the government has spent $1.2 trillion on wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Bush tax cuts for the rich have deprived Americans of $2.5 trillion. In 2010 alone, the federal government spent more than $15 billion on the war on drugs. It also shelled out $700 billion to save big banks. MEANWHILE there are 10,000 low-income Americans waiting for lifesaving AIDS medication through the government's cash-strapped AIDS drug assistance programs. Every night, 40,000 people sleep in New York City shelters. 50 million Americans lack health insurance. New HIV infections are rising rapidly among young black men; and there are more people than ever sitting in federal prisons. WE ASK YOU: Where should the government be putting our money?
