Objective: To define matter. To observe physical changes in matter and the

different states matter exists.
Hypothesis: Take a guess below about what you think will happen in
the lab.

___
Materials:
1. Data Sheet to record observations
2. Diagrams (so you see how to set up the experiment)
3. Plastic Container
4. Ring stand and 1 Clamp
5. 2 test tubes
6. Alka-Seltzer Tablet
7. Pencil and markers
8. Graduated Cylinder
9. Ruler
10.
3 drops of food coloring
11.
Water
12.
Rubber stopper with rubber tubing already attached
Procedures:
1. Set up lab experiment, using the diagram to guide you.
2. Fill water container with approximately 1.5 liters of water (about
half full).
3. Add 3 drops of food coloring to the 1.5 liters of water in the plastic
container.
4. Using the graduated cylinder measure 15ml of water.
5. Place 15ml of water in Vial A.
6. Add Alka Seltzer to Vial A and cover with rubber stopper.
7. Observe what is happening in Vial A, in the Container and in Vial B.
8. Write your observations on the sheet with the mini-diagrams.
9. Draw what you see on the diagrams.
10. Clean up lab equipment and lab table.

Use the space below to write out your procedures for this lab.
Use the procedures listed to guide you, but remember to use
your own words.
