Multiplexing means trasmitting a large number of information units over a smaller number of channels or line.
Function :
A digital multiplexer is a combinational circuit that selects binary information from one of many input lines and directs it to a single output line.
output line
MUX
n Selection lines
It accept several data inputs and allows only one of them at a time to get through to the output routing of the desired data input to the output is controlled by selection line (i/p).
The selection of a particular input line is controlled by a set of selection line. Normally , there are 2^n input lines and n selection lines whose bit combination determine which input is selected.
Selection line
Mux act like a digi controlled multi position switch. The digi code apply to the selection i/ps determine which data i/p will be switch to the o/p.
For e.g. 4 i/p mux. It has 4 i/p lines , 2 selection line and 1 o/p.

Application :
Data selector , data routing , opretion sequensing , parallel to serial conversion, wave form geration and lodic function genration , in communication systems , for switchings the data or information etc.
