What we are learning In Reading- The story this week is Space Pup. The genre is science fiction. The phonics skill is the short vowel u. In Writing-This week we will review the lower case letters k, x, and z. Now that we are finishing up letter formation review, we will begin having writing lessons on most days. The students are working on writing several ideas on a topic using spaces between words and a period at the end of a sentence. In Math-We will continue unit 2, Subtraction concepts. We are way through the unit. We will focus on problem solving strategies. In Science- We will wrap up our study of the senses by making a Senses Cube. Halloween is coming up. We will do a short bat identifying study. In Social Studies-We have learned about Johnnie Appleseed and Christopher Columbus. Next we will learn about Veterans Day and the history of Thanksgiving.

Our Calendar *Fri., Oct.28-No School! Teacher Workday. Let me know if you would like to schedule a conference on this dayl. *Mon., Oct. 31-Halloween! Festivities abound! *Fri., Nov. 4-No School! UF Homecoming-Go Gators! *Thurs., Nov. 10, 8:45 am-We will have a short program honoring our veterans. Come join us and bring a veteran. *Fri., Nov. 11-No School! Veterans Day.

Halloween Festivities
We will celebrate Halloween on Monday, October 31. Kids may come to school dressed in costume. No scary or violent characters or weapons, please. *We will have our traditional costume parade in the morning. *We will have a craft party from1:00-2:00. We will need volunteers to help supervise the crafts. Come join the fun. If you have an idea for a Halloween craft, please let me or Susan Bonagura know. *Please send in a treat or a trinket for each child. Ex: bag of Halloween candy, small box of raisins, stickers, pencils. We will stuff each others Trick or Treat bags. For more information or to volunteer, call Susan Bonagura at 352-595-4554.
