Design & implementation of a single phase grid-tie inverter for solar power system

Group members: Bernard Lyn

This project consists of four subsystems: Power Inverter Power Factor Correction Anti-islanding Phase Lock Loop

Concept : Converting DC to AC Output : Quasi Sine Wave

Power Inverter

Problems faced: 1. The output waveform is not completely sinusoidal. 2. Signal conditioning required(filtering). 3. Connection back to the grid is difficult.

Power Factor Correction

Concept : Improving the Overall Power Factor Output : High Level DC Voltage Problems faced: 1. Using a buck-boost topology, the driver circuitry involved are much more sophisticated. 2. The output voltage polarity is opposite of the input.

Concept : To ensure the safety of the maintenance personal servicing the grid during an outage Output : To connect or disconnect the output of the power inverter back to the grid Problems faced: 1. The level of protection offered by various methods. 2. The transient response of the detection system to react to changes that are occurring.

Anti-islanding

Phase Lock Loop

Concept : To match the power inverters output AC frequency/phase with the distribution grids frequency/phase Output : Matched frequency/phase of the output ensures a low total harmonic distortion (THD) Problems faced: 1. Locking range of the PLL system 2. Systems responsiveness in achieving a locking condition.

The End! Thank You for your Time and Patience.
