NEWS RELEASE

Date: October 25, 2011 Prepared by: Capt. Rich Ferrone Contact Number: 973-326-7482 Incident: Motor Vehicle Crash - Car vs Train I.R. #: 2011-24835 Date/Time: October 25, 2011 @ 10:00am Location: E. Hanover Ave. Summary of Incident/Arrest: At approximately 10:00am on October 25, 2011 the Morris Township Police Department responded to the area of 307 E. Hanover Avenue on a report of a car that had crashed into a train. The resulting crash and investigation left E. Hanover Avenue at Ridgedale Avenue closed for approximately 45 minutes. Involved with the crash was a 2007 VW Passat operated by 51 year old, Eulena Horne of Mt. Arlington, NJ. Investigation revealed she had crashed into the caboose as it crossed E. Hanover Avenue. The caboose was being pushed through the intersection by an engine operated by the Morristown and Erie Railway of Morristown, NJ. Although the four-lane rail crossing is not controlled by gates, the flashing lights, sounding bells, and the engines horn all appeared to be functioning properly. As a result of the crash, the driver suffered minor injuries. She was taken to Morristown Medical Center by the Cedar Knolls First Aid Squad for treatment. The two occupants of the train did not report any injuries. The Morris Township Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Morris Township Fire Department, Hanvover Township Police Department, and the Morris County Sheriffs Office. Horne was charged with careless driving.
NOTE: Despite these pending charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until

found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt following a jury trial at which the defendant has all of his/her rights guaranteed by the U.S. and New Jersey Constitutions and relevant state law.
