Framing Exercise - Taboo

To complete this activity you are given a main word that must be described to an individual from a country other than your own. A list of five common words that you cannot use in your description is provided below the main word. For example, if the main word being described is "coffee," the five most common words are "black," "drink," "cream," "sugar" "hot and they cannot be used when writing your description. In your description of the word you will have to use verbal skills to get the other individual to understand the main word without using common words. Directions: Use complete sentences and be as descriptive as possible in describing or defining the following main words to someone who you know is from a country other than yours. Assume that this person has minimal knowledge of your language, so limit your use of idioms in your description.
