SWITCHING SYSTEMS

In the figure there is a point to point connection for six subscribers. Here, each subscriber is connected to five other subscriber . For six subscribers the number of links is 15.

Now lets consider the case o f N subscribers . Then the total number of links required to connect each other ,L will be :
L=(n-1)+(n-2)+n-3)+. +2+1+0

L =n(n-1)/2

Isnt that so complicated. Here arises the concept 4/29/12 of switching systems .

What is switching ?

4/29/12

A switching system is a network consists of a series of interlinked nodes, called switches.

Switches are devices capable of creating temporary connections between two or 4/29/12 more

Basically people often confuse themselves between switching and routing . Switching and routing both are different concepts. two

CIRCUIT SWITCHING

4/29/12

A circuit switched network consists of a set of switches connected by physical links. A connection between two stations is a dedicated path made of one or more links. It is the property for circuit switching that it needs to setup an end to end path before any data can be sent . 4/29/12

One major example of circuit switching is our telephone network.
