Dumping your Internet cache completely in Windows XP:

(1.) Go to the Start menu


a. Click on All Programs
b. Click on Accessories
c. Click on System Tools
d. Click on Disk Cleanup
e. Wait for the system to calculate how much space will be saved
f. Select Downloaded files, Temporary internet files, Temporary files, and Web client/Publisher
files
(2.) Go to the Start menu
a. Click on search
b. Click on All files and folders
c. Enter “prefetch” as a file name (these are the files that the browser saves to save time; by not
having to reload them)
d. Be sure to select My computer (not just C drive) under the “Look in” option
e. Delete all files
(3.) Go to the Start menu
a. Click on search
b. Click on All files and folders
c. Enter “cookies” as a file name
d. Be sure to select My computer (not just C drive) under the “Look in” option
e. Delete all files
(4.) Go to the Start menu
a. Click on search
b. Click on All files and folders
c. Enter “temp” as a file name
d. Be sure to select My computer (not just C drive) under the “Look in” option
e. Delete all files
(5.) Go to the Start menu
a. Click on search
b. Click on All files and folders
c. Enter “recent” as a file name
d. Be sure to select My computer (not just C drive) under the “Look in” option
e. Delete all files
(6.) Go to the Start menu
a. Click on search
b. Click on All files and folders
c. Enter “cache” as a file name
d. Be sure to select My computer (not just C drive) under the “Look in” option
e. Delete all files

The cache is on the C drive, and there are several folders- most likely under Windows and Program files (under
program files, there may be 1 folder for each program that accesses the web).
