Arcangelo Corelli uses many different scales in the sonata.

D major in bar 1-8 A major in bar 10-19 D major in bar 20-25 B minor in bar 26-30 E minor in bar 31 A major in bar 32 G major in bar 33 D major in bars 36-43 He does not only change the tonality in this piece but other pieces such as the Trio Sonata OP.1 No.1. This shows that Corelli likes to uses many different scales instead of sticking to one.

There are a few perfect cadences such as Bar 19 bar 43. V-I Also the texture of the piece is Contrapuntal with elements of fugal and imitation in it.

Corelli uses many different compositional devices in his Trio Sonata for example: Cross rhythm (bar 26), hemiolas (bar 27), pedal note (bar 15-18) sequence (bar 16-19), polarised texture (bar 13) and fugal entry (bar 1-6). Compositional devices are added to pieces of music to make them more interesting. Many of these things can also be found in Corellis other music such as Trio Sonata op.3 no.4. A few of these thing consist of cross rhythms and pedal note.

The structure of this piece is in Binary. This piece can be called a Gigue A gigue is usually in 3/8 or in another compound time such as 6/8, 9/8 or 12/8. It is also normally always in binary, and is always fast kind of music. The song is also a sonata da chiesa (church sonata). Corelli was famous for his sonata da chiesas. One of the greatest exponents of the sonata da chiesa was the Ravennate Arcangelo Corelli
