    We feel helpless in marriage because we try to control our partners instead of controlling ourselves. To have a successful marriage, we need to learn self-control by focusing on personal growth rather than changing our spouse. When we stop trying to change our mate and work on ourselves, it can positively impact the marriage. Marriage requires two people, but changing it for the better starts from within.

    Marriage It takes two people to have a marriage, but changing it only needs one.

    We end up feeling helpless in our marriages because we cant control our partners. The truth is that we need only to learn to control ourselves. If we abandon our attempts to change our mate and instead focus on ourselves, surprisingly but predictably, changes start to occur in the marriage itself.
