LOCAL LEADERSHIP
Recruitment of local citizens to form a Guest River Citizen Board by August 2008
Carolyn will meet with two civic groups in Coeburn (Kiwanis & Civic League)
Greg will speak to Keep Southwest Virginia Beautiful & the Wise Kiwanis
Shelly will try to recruit from one of the civic groups in Norton, such as from the Master
Gardeners
Other tasks:
Ask citizens who “volunteer” to serve their meeting time preference
Have citizen meeting prior to the Guest River Group meeting in August 2008
After the 1st meeting, have the citizens start thinking about their future involvement & board
development
“BIG ROCKS” for those present that the Guest River Group will have accomplished by 2013:
1 – TMDL/IP full development – 4 votes
6 – Continue capacity building (civic engagement) for this watershed group (GRG) – 0 votes
7 – Communities use the GRG as an example of great watershed stewardship (as a model to influence
movement/replication to other watersheds – 1 vote

10 – Increased tourism/traffic to Guest River Gorge – 4 votes
