SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND LABORATORY RULES Teachers permission 1.

Students are not allowed to enter the laboratory without teachers permission 2. Chemicals or apparatus cannot be removed or taken out of laboratory without teachers permission 3. Experiments cannot be carried out without teachers permission Safety 1. Use a wooden splinter, a match or a lighter to light the Bunsen burner. Used wooden splinters, matches or lighters must be extinguished before being thrown down into the waste basket 2. Do not light the Bunsen burner with a piece of paper. Always extinguish the Bunsen burner after use. 3. Do not throw solid substances into the sink. Solid substances must be thrown into the waste basket. 4. Read the labels on reagent bottles before use. 5. Do not light waste chemical substances. Take substances in quantities determined by your teacher. Do not put unused chemicals back into their original bottle. 6. Do not waste gas, water or electricity. 7. Do not play, jest or run around in the laboratory. 8. Do not use your fingers to handle chemical substances. Instead, use a spatula for solid chemical substances and a dropper for liquid chemical substances. 9. All chemical substances are poisonous and dangerous. Therefore, do not waste or smelly any of them 10. Do not drink piped water in the laboratory because this water is not safe for drinking. 11. When you are heating chemical substances in a test tube, do not point the mouth of the test tube at yourself or your friends. Emergencies 1. If acid or alkali is split onto your skin or eye, wash it off with plenty of water. 2. If any acid or alkali gets into your mouth, spit it out immediately and wash your mouth with plenty of water, 3. If your clothes catch fire, do not panic. Roll on the floor while waiting for your teacher to put out flames with fire blanket. 4. If there is a fire in the laboratory, obey all the fire regulations of your school. 5. Report all accidents to your teacher immediately. Cleanliness 1. Wash and clean all apparatus after use and return them to their original positions 2. Clean the area where you carried out your experiment. Leave the laboratory clean and neat. Prepared by, Pn.
