West Minico Middle School Anti-Foul Language Campaign Our school motto for this campaign is Swearing Is Not

Caring. Use the Taking on Foul and Demeaning Language At Your School information given to each teacher for instructional use during advisory. As adults we need constant intervention in monitoring swearing in our classrooms and hallways making sure that students are given an automatic 60 minute detention. Please monitor students during extra-curricular events, before and after school, on school grounds, school sponsored activities (games both home and away), busses, and follow through with our school expectations. We will gather data regarding these offenses to determine why these behaviors are occurring. We will be looking at circumstances, people, practices and triggers. We will be placing posters throughout the school and you will receive them to use in your classroom for teaching aides. We need to communicate expectations for the school environment regardless of practices at home or in the larger community. Discuss the inappropriateness of language usage during on-line environment use. Please discuss this in advisories. We will regularly make announcements and place anti-profanity slogans on the school marquees. We have asked our student council leaders to monitor swearing and write down student/teacher names, what they heard and where they heard the profanity. They are to turn these referrals into Mr. Perrigot, Mrs. Dietz, Mrs. Borden and Ms. McCrae for additional monitoring and possible intervention. We are discussing appropriate ways of asking peers not to use profanity when our student leaders hear other students. We are working on modeling through role-playing to learn how to handle these situations. To earn the monthly privilege students may not have more than 1 demerit. Therefore, anyone given a detention for profanity will lose the end of the month reward privilege automatically. During lunch detention, students will be given an anti-profanity paragraph to copy which will need to be turned in. As outlined in their job descriptions, teachers, coaches/advisors, and all school personnel are expected to enforce and to adhere to the Anti-Bullying Policy and support the Swearing Is Not Caring campaign.
