MEDIA RELEASE

ICT cover ups continue

A peak national industry body, Outsourcing Council Asia Pacific (OCAP), representing a broad based membership in the ICT sector has slammed the continued cover ups from the Queensland Labor Government and its IT Minister Simon Finn. OCAP Chairman, Bruce Mills, said he had revealed the response to an FOI request regarding the ICT Workgroup which explicitly stated documents had been moved into cabinet confidentiality and also material was refused release due to it being potentially embarrassing or damaging to the Government. I resigned from the Queensland ICT Workgroup for the very reason that both the Minister Simon Finn and his $5000 an hour mouthpiece Paul Campbell have treated it as their personal fiefdom, Mr Mills said. OCAP requested certain material in the public interest under the freedom of information act however it is very obvious that the minister has moved material into cabinet confidentiality processes to avoid scrutiny. In addition, the FOI process itself has become a joke when the basis of refusing information is done on the grounds of potentially embarrassing the Government. Both the Queensland ICT Minister and his taxpayer funded mouthpiece Paul Campbell have a record of gagging workgroup members and concerted campaigns of cover ups which should be of concern for all Queenslanders given the health payroll debacle and the looming SAP disaster. As the head of a peak ICT industry body it's both my duty and responsibility to call for transparency and accountability particularly given the numerous stuff ups and cover ups surrounding Queensland ICT, Mr Mills said.
