Abstract

India has a vast supply of renewable energy resources, and it has one of the largest programs in
the world for deploying renewable energy products and systems. Indeed, it is the only country in the world to have an exclusive ministry for renewable energy development. This being one of the key sector of the economy which should be focused through a combination of incentive and direct benefit. For this the Indian Ministry of Power have mandate to promote renewable energy sources for Power Generation under specific Nodal agencies and hence they will play a major role in mainstreaming the renewable energy sector of India. Specifically, according to Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources (MNES) present years, renewable power capacity is upto11% of total installed capacity. This growth has been achieved through the recent policy and guidelines attention to this sector. These are aimed to economies of scale to reduce the cost and to convince competition for investment in this sector. These policies helps to give major thrust to this sector majorly by two methods .Firstly different subsidies given to the this sector incorporating infrastructure ,soft loan, land acquisition, capital/Interest subsidy ,environmental , generation based incentive, CDM and providing feed in tariffs schemes for generation of renewable energy . Secondly due to high operating cost and less profit margin Indian Government promote this sector by different Tax benefit by Income tax breaks, Accelerated depreciation, reduction in different duties on green products and other tax benefit under section 80 IA in financial point of view. Although all the benefit and subsidies, there are many different issue and challenges are faced by this sector. To resolve this technology and financial uncertainty nodal agencies have to come with better solution and new guidelines & reforms to encourage and sustain growth in this booming sector by public private partnership or any other smart solutions.
