SPIRITUAL STATISTICS -November 13, 2011

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

THANK YOU: I want to express my appreciation to Brad for teaching my Wednesday classes, last week. Also, thanks to Glen for filling in for me on Sunday evening. Their assistance allowed Sue and I to enjoy a few days in North Carolina. We played some golf and attended Duke Universitys season opener in basketball (which they won!). KEENAGERS TRIP: As expected, there have been some changes for our November 29 trip to visit the Conns Potato Chip factory, in Zanesville. Several have found it necessary to cancel and we have added transportation, so if you were on stand-by, you are now good-to-go. (check out the sign-up sheet). Do remember that we depart at 8:10 AM. We will lunch at the Tumbleweed Restaurant where menu items start at $5.69. After lunch, we will be traveling to Dresden and a visit to the Longaberger Homestead. The tour is free and lunch is on your own. The cost will be $3 per person for transportation. You may make your payment, by check or cash, at any time. A sign-up sheet remains posted and we will continue taking stand-bys. WEDNESDAYS: I will be back with our 10:00 AM and 6:30 PM study groups this week (11/16). As always, I invite you to participate in either of these groups. This week we will be examining chapter 9 of II Corinthians. SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY: Due to the special Thanksgiving dinner, we will not be meeting this week (11/20). We will be returning to our current series on, The Hard Sayings of Jesus on November 27. On that evening, our topic will be The Unforgiveable Sin. Jesus speaks of this in Matthew 3:28-20 and Luke 12:10. On December 4, we will focus on Jesus words of Mark 15:34 & Matthew 27:46 where He says, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? FINAL THOUGHT: Something is wrong in the life of the individual who constantly sees wrong in others.

A Note from Brad

Hello everyone. I hope that you have been enjoying your family study on the resource, "Take God at His Word." This Sunday morning we will be looking at the theme "A Practical Plan for Generous Giving." Please be sure to read chapter 3 of your book before Sunday. I want to take the rest of my article space today to help prepare you for the selection of our officers. This week let me focus your attention on the role of Deacon/Elder at FACC. The word "Deacon" in the New Testament literally means servant-leader. Therefore at Fifth Avenue, our Deacons have been called to serve some very specific tasks. Below you will find a listing. Our Deacons assist our Elders in ministering to our church families. More specifically, this includes: a. Assisting the Elders with Sunday afternoon visitation of our shut-ins. By shut-in, this is understood as those who are absolutely unable to go anywhere; they are homebound or in a nursing facility. b. Assist the Elders with shepherding the congregation through our "Circles of Concern" ministry. Each Deacon oversees about 12 families of the church. c. Assisting the Elders by making a phone call every 30 days to each family in your assigned circle. This is just a general call to find out: "Do you have any emergencies; problems; prayer requests; needs?" d. Assisting with home visitation. It is suggested that an "in home" visit be made by the Deacon/Elder to each family in their assigned families two times a year. (Ex.- Spring & Fall) In addition, Deacons are accountable to the Elders. Each Deacon/Elder should keep in touch with absentees, sick, people who you sense are falling away from FACC and the Lord .. .in his assigned families. Be sure to read through the scriptures prior to voting for leaders. (1 Tim. 3: 1-13; Titus 1:5-9; Acts 6:1-6); just to name a few. Our voting for leadership should not be based upon popularity. Ask God's Spirit to lead you in this decision. I do hope this helps you as you consider who should lead this congregation. Have a great week and I hope to see each of you this Sunday at Fifth. In His Service, Brad Seevers, Eph. 3:20-21
