GPS

What is GPS?
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system made up of a network of 24 satellites placed into orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense. GPS was originally intended for military applications, but in the 1980s, the government made the system available for civilian use. GPS works in any weather conditions, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day. There are no subscription fees or setup charges to use GPS.

How is GPS work?

GPS works like this: A minimum of 24 GPS satellites are in orbit at 20,200 kilometers (12,600 miles) above the Earth. The satellites are spaced so that from any point on Earth, at least four satellites will be above the prospect.

 Each satellite contains a simple computer, atomic clocks, and various radios. With an understanding of its own orbit and the clock, the satellite continually broadcasts its changing position and time.
