On September 24, 2011 just 12 days before the provincial election Dalton McGuinty announced he was scrapping the controversial gas power plant in Mississauga. Today, construction continues. In October 2010, Dalton McGuinty announced he was scrapping a $1.2 billion, 900-megawatt power plant in Oakville that was already under construction. He has yet to reveal how much it will cost taxpayers for breaking the contract. The Liberals decision to kill controversial gas-powered generating plants in two Grit-held GTA ridings will cost Ontario taxpayers more than $1 billion, an industry source says.
