7/30/07 Day 2 – Weather Summer Camp 2006

Objectives  Students will gain knowledge of common weather related terms.

 Students will read a book which introduces some weather items.


 Students will learn about the various forms of precipitation.
 Students will play games to help develop English thought process.
 Students will sing a song to help familiarize their knowledge of the weather.
Vocabulary Foggy, cloudy, cold, warm, rainy, sunny, windy, humid, stormy, snowy, cold, cool, warm, hot, precipitation,
rain, snow, sleet, hail, freezing rain.

 Hello, how are you?


 What day is it/what’s the date?
 How’s the weather?

Development  Weather Word Find 7’ Word find handout.


 Have students repeat the words on the right.
 Give students 5 minutes to find and circle words.

 Weather Word Scramble 6’ Word scramble handout.


 In pairs, students unscramble the words.
 Have students come to the board and write answer.

 Storybook – The Wind and The Sun 17’ The Wind and The Sun book
 Divide students into groups for role-play. The Wind and The Sun story
 Students take turns reading the story. in handout.
 Explain any difficult words.

 Picture Time 8’ Weather pictures handout.


 Students write the correct word under the pictures.
 Students come to the board and write answer.

 Precipitation Introduction 6’ Precipitation info & pictures
 Introduce the word precipitation. in handout.
 Talk about the various forms.
 Students write the correct word under the pictures.

 Hand out The Weatherman Song sheets. Let’s Go 5 CD
 Students listen and repeat the lyrics. The Weatherman Song sheet
 Play the song once for students just to listen. Computer & TV for song.
 Students sing the song.

Conclusion  Scattergories Game 20’ Scattegories die


 Explain rules of Scattergories to students. Scattegories game sheets
 Students form teams of 4. from handout
 Go over rounds and topics with students. TV and Computer for timer.
 Roll the letter die.
 Start the 3-minute timer.
 In groups, students come up with 1 word for
each topic that starts with the die’s letter.
 After 3 rounds, the team with the most points
is the winner.
