Modules DDM

First semester The first semester of the DDM master's program concentrates on materials, strength and durability issues. Three of the five modules are devoted to these topics. The lectures range from deriving fundamental equations over numerical approaches and technological topics to practical case studies and failure analyses. The module Measurement and Testing Techniques addresses the second major subject of the DDM Course, i.e. dynamic systems. It comprises theory of vibration and acoustics measurement and laboratory experiments. Safety and reliability issues, including DOE and both active and passive vehicle safety are covered in the module Safety and Reliability. Second semester In the second semester of the DDM master's program, the subject dynamic systems is continued in the three modules Dynamics, Vibration and Acoustics and Aero- and Fluid Dynamics. The topics include theoretical background, analytical and numerical analyses of the systems as well as practical design guidelines. Design for Manufacturing addresses process-related design issues in the industrialization of a product, including assemblies, joining techniques and process-conformous design plus CAE techniques for product life cycle management. A team project to be selected from the topics of the individual modules completes the second semester of the DDM course. The aim of this project is to deepen the academic knowledge in a specific area as well as to advance the social and management skills in an international team structure. Third semester In their final thesis, students demonstrate the full extent of their scientific and practical engineering knowledge of a scientific subject. Master's theses can be performed individually or in a team, either at the university or, preferably, within a company. During the third semester, students also receive a multi-day training on soft skills for engineers.
