SQL Developer can be used to explore database table structures and records, to run interactive SQL code or SQL scripts, as well as to create PL/SQL procedures or run reports. SQL developer can run on a variety of platforms such as Linux, Windows and Mac OSX. In this tutorial we will provide information enabling you to install Oracle SQL developer, along with Java SDK and an Oracle 10g Express Edition (XE) database server. Examples of SQL Developer capabilites will then be illustrated by building and populating a database of small molecule chemical structures. In addition we will look at the use of SQL Developer to help perform database administration tasks.
