2.1 Skill 2.1.6 Use the writing process, media and visual literacy, and technology skills to create products that express new understandings. Our audience includes 24 students between the ages of 7 and 8 years old. All are native English speakers and are African-American. The majority of the students are below grade level. The students are primarily auditory and visual learners. The purpose of this activity is for students to understand the significance of using varies media and literacy skills to gain new understandings. Given a historical figure (i.e. Jackie Robinson), students will use a variety of resources (i.e. internet and encyclopedias) to write one paragraph that includes a topic sentence, four sentences with supporting details, and a conclusion sentence. The paragraph should be completed with 80% accuracy.
