SAMPLE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OUTLINE 1.

Pre-school/Elementary

born in Annapolis, grew up in Upper Marlboro played Boys Club sports (soccer, wrestling, baseball) and joined Scouts started playing the trumpet in school; had lead role in school musical displayed leadership traits in school and on the sports field influenced by uncle who was Superintendent of Schools

2. Middle/High School

participated on traveling teams in soccer and wrestling frequent Honor Roll student in middle and high school played trumpet in the middle school and high school bands won third place in the middle school Science Fair selected for all-county band in high school voted treasurer of my class in high school co-captain of the soccer and wrestling teams in high school business teacher and priest/rector were major influences in my life

3. Young Adulthood

recruited for wrestling in college, but decided against it began college locally but dropped out due to poor grades and lack of money for tuition played trumpet and sang with several local bands; played gigs at restaurants and bars started working for a distributor of products for vending machines met my spouse and got married moved to Baltimore and rented a small townhouse by Oriole's Stadium changed jobs to accounts receivable moved closer to my spouses' parents in New Jersey before the birth of our first child began working for father-in-law who has his own accounting business for large trusts first son was born met a good friend who encouraged me to join a church support group second son was born; apartment lacked space for my family moved back to Maryland, bought a townhouse, and returned to college at Prince George's found a good job in the accounting field hope to get a degree in accounting and start my own firm working with large trusts like my father-in-law

IMPORTANT NOTE: One of the things you will notice from this outline is that there is a chronological flow or sequence that has occurred, especially if you take the time to really notice how impactful a person's influence can be in a person's life. From the sample outline above, there are consistent influences that could have contributed to that person developing an interest in working in a school setting as well as sports. As you prepare your outline, make sure that you take into consideration people and events that have occurred in your life early; these may have been strong influences to your current likes, your interests, your skills and your goals.
