Contraindications:

-people taking low-salt diets
and diuretics

drowsiness,
headache, tremor,
EEG changes, ataxia,
abnormal tongue
movements, slow
mental functioning,
slurred speech,
confusions,
hallucinations, coma,
epileptiform seizures,
bradycardia,
hypotension, nausea,
vomiting, oliguria, dry
thin hair, alopecia, dry
skin, altered,metallic
or salty taste, edema
on lips,ankles and
wrists, dry mouth




To treat manic
episodes of
bipolar disorder
-give with food or milk to
minimize G upset

-limit food and beverages
containing caffeine, because
they may interfere with drug
action

-maintain adequate fluid
intake (approximately 2L per
day) and continue with usual
amount of dietary table salt.

-monitor fluid intake and
output. Watch for edema and
weight gain.

-watch out for presence or
adverse effects
